1 Corinthians 10:31
So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, you should do it all for God’s glory.
I was talking to a teacher this week, and she told me how most of her students have no church or faith background. They don’t know the stories of the Bible: David and Goliath, Abraham, Job, Jesus. She had to start a Bible Literature class so her AP English students would know the cultural references to biblical stories in order to pass the exams.
Most of us grew up in the church, and with family members who attended church. Most of us know David and Abraham and Mary. We are blessed to take God and God’s stories for granted. But what else do we take for granted in our lives? Do we eat and sleep and work and rest each day, and forget that these are all gifts from God? Do we live our lives connected to God, or are we just trying desperately to get through the day?
It is easy to take God for granted when we know God and know we are God’s children. But for the people who don’t know God, they may feel they have no foundation for their daily activities. Many of them struggle to find meaning and purpose in their lives.
As we start a new year, let’s take each day as God’s gift, and give our daily routines to God as our offering. We can bless others through our meals. We can bless others through our work. Perhaps through the blessings of our daily tasks we can show God to the people around us, and maybe God can bless them through us. Amen.
