Saying 'thank you' to hard-working businesses. October 2018
Our local Downtown MainStreet business development group schedules a Trick-or-Treat event the Saturday before Halloween every year. Hundreds of people walk around gathering treats with kids in bright costumes. And the employees working that day work hard!
Reverse Trick-or-Treat
What if we give as well as receive?
Halloween can seem like an event where we teach kids to randomly ask for stuff from strangers. A reverse trick-or-treat project shows we can give while we receive, and it was another great idea we got from a church posting on the internet.
Quick & Easy
We bought boxes of microwave popcorn and ordered 50 movie codes from Redbox online. After church we taped one movie code and a card from our church to each popcorn pack. Our moms with toddlers then delivered one to each downtown business that was giving out candy for Halloween as a way of saying thank you to busy employees in our neighborhood. Some of the employees weren't sure what to do when they received a gift from us, others were touched that we appreciated the hard work they did to help kids enjoy Halloween. Total cost was around $100 between popcorn and movie codes.
