Sharing treats with our business neighbors. November 2018
Our church is located on the boundary between the commercial downtown district and the residential neighborhoods in the center of our city. Taking an idea from another downtown church, the women of our church baked about 1000 cookies, and we had a package assembly day after a church potluck.
We packed about 8-12 cookies in a tupperware or plate/ziplock bag combo and filled four cloth grocery bags. We also did a couple of big bags as shown in the photo above for a couple of businesses nearby with a lot of employees.
Then on Monday a couple of us started walking our neighborhood and handed out all the cookies. We met a lot of neighbors, and several people were really happy to get fresh cookies. All we said when we walked in was that we were from Bridges Church in the neighborhood, and we wanted to give them cookies as a thank-you for all the work they do for our city. Each pack had our appreciation card, as well as a basic information card for our church.
My Leadership Team member, Jane, who went with me had a great time and was really pumped about the people we met. This trip paid off the next month when other church members were walking around putting up promotional materials for our Christmas Eve services. A number of businesses remembered us and called us 'the cookie church.' So we are starting to grow some community awareness.
