Using Halloween to meet a ton of families and share joy through glowing. October 2018

Handing out glow bracelets - Halloween 2018

I love the internet, and I love people who are willing to spend time sharing their ideas! We got this idea from another church, and it worked great for our first year. We look forward to doing it again next year!

Glow Bracelets

How can we add to the fun of Halloween plus meet new families and share information about our church ministries?

We are still getting comfortable with talking about our church and our faith stories. But one of the ideas we are trying to remember is that we need to go where the people are, not just try to lure them into our big building.

Halloween is a night where lots of people are on the go. We set up a couple of tables at different places around town with a couple of volunteers at each table. We ordered packs of glow bracelets from Amazon and handed them out to the kids as they were running from house to house. Kids love glow bracelets, and they were fun once the streets got dark. It was easier for parents to see their kids with the bracelets - the kids in unicorn costumes even put them on their horns!

Connections

While handing out the bracelets, we also invited parents to complete a connection card for the chance to win a Samsung Galaxy table for their family. This was a way for us to collect some emails and phone numbers to send information about our church and upcoming events. We handed out around 150 bracelets and got about 25 contacts for follow-up. One of the people ended up coming to a future FLASH event...

Results

We are still working on how to share our story of faith and talk about our church. We haven't gotten a lot of people coming yet, but more and more people know about our church. Kids are starting to think that we might be a fun church. Our people are definitely starting to be more comfortable inviting people to check out our church. Little by little we are becoming evangelists and finding new ways to have spiritual conversations with new people.
